Our Design Matrix

Using a design matrix we constructed a comparative analysis of 4 common menstrual products: reusable pads, disposable pads, diva (or menstrual) cups and tampons. We came to the conclusion that a reusable pad was the best product to address the needs of the women and girls of Jinja. In the top row are several criteria we used when considering which menstrual product would best. These criteria include: cost of production, ability to locally-source the material, durability, hygiene, effectiveness, comfortability, eco-friendly, and culturally conscious. The table below shows the weights that we allocated towards the criteria. You can see that the reusable pad receives a sore of 75% out of a perfect score of 100%, compared the relatively low scores of their competitors.
